Ginger's style guide: Winter

Hey girls, have a seat.

We need to have a chat because I'm worried about you. Ok we don't live in the UK and it doesn't snow, but ladies its chilly! Your going to catch your death running from pub to club in your saucy mini dress and heels. Sure we all get nice and warm rocking out on the dance floor, but what happens when its time to leave and the taxi's are few and far between.

So here is my public service announcement - rug up sweeties. Here are some tips on how to stay stylish and sexy while keeping the chills at bay.

Take a cardigan, wear a blazer or just throw on an over sized sweater. Better yet wear a gorgeous coat and just leave it in the coat check.

Stockings! There is no need to freeze just to show off your stems. Your look may even look that little more polished with a set of chic black stockings. Here is the important part, look out for the denier (that's the thickness) If you want a really warm set of stockings then a higher denier is better. I wear at least 70 but I have seen them go up to 200 denier.

Boots! Oh so in right now AND you can sneak a pair of socks under them to keep your tootsies real cosy like.

Lastly, for that extra little bit of warmth you cant go past a street cuddle with the boy you took out (or just found ;)

Despite its abundance on the style scene, gorgeous floral still holds a special place in my heart. I just thought I would share some of the frocks that have recently joined my collection and are just too darling to be overlooked.

I was having dinner at my favourite freo foodcourt and I just couldnt resist whipping out my iphone and taking some quick pictures of some fellow dinners. Autumn stripes 70's sweater, painted leather jacket and standout style from the lovely proprietor of funky vintage store, Off the Wall. Not a bad dinner I say.

Hey kids, how have you been? I've missed you.

As you may have noticed I have been very absent on here of late, and my reason...LIFE! Its sure does get pretty complex at times doesn't it; yup its a tricky tricky business this whole game. Fear not though dear reader, we are not heading into D&M territory here. No, instead I thought what better way to get stuck back into my bloggy blog than by answering a few questions that the lovely people from Storm Watches and 2threads sent to me.

In support of their gorgeous timepiece collection, the questions are all time related. Now I found this to be really quite fitting seeing as the thing I need most desperately right now is time... and a tumble dryer!


1. The time you felt most inspired by fashion – your most inspiring fashion moment

Stumbling across this magnificent shot of Elle 'The Body' Macpherson in an old Australian Vogue circa 1989. Never before had I seen fashion so closely resemble art. Her form and pose are so absolutely perfect in the silk dress that she looks like an incredible sculpture painstakingly carved from the rocky surrounds.

2. The time you were proudest of your outfit or style

One outfit stands proudest above all the rest, though it failed miserably in the style stakes. 2001 year 12 High School Ball dress! Hailing from a small country town I had precious few options on offer. Rather than wear a hideous black halter neck dress I decided to put my very limited sewing experience to use.

With only a picture torn from a Cosmopolitan magazine as reference, I designed my first outfit. The skirt was full length and voluminous made from blood red satin with a black chiffon layer over the top to make it a shimmering maroon. The bodice was made from a gold top I bought from Myers that I then flipped upside down, cut up a bit and then sewed all back together in some way that made sense to me at the time. Overall, not the most inspired of designs however I am still proud that I managed to make something wearable and in such rich and opulent colours too.

Too bad it didn't survive the night; the year 12 boys decimated the back hem while moshing ferociously to Limp Biskit 'Rollin'. What a way to go!

3. The Time in Fashion you would most like to return to – e.g 60’s style, 70’s style...

It was a tough choice, I almost went with the elegance, glamour and femininity of the 30's. However, if I was to go time traveling I just couldn't miss the all round style of the 70's! They had it all; sparkling sexpot disco dancers, bronzed hostesses in maxi dresses besides azure pools, wild and free boho babes, rocking concert tees, high waisted jeans and they even had geek chic before there even existed geek chic (though in slightly thicker and itchier stockings).

You only have to look at Boogie Nights for proof - Life was wild, stylish and fantastic for Dirk Diggler and Roller Girl in the sun drenched 70's.
